General Details
The Fire Safety
Engineering Technology
program at UNC Charlotte
leads to a Bachelors of
Science degree in Fire
Safety Engineering
Technology. The program
is delivered in several
ways. A full time on
campus program is
available as well as
options for transfer,
part time and distance
education participation.
The upper division
courses can be taken as
part of a "+ 2"
option which means
students transfer* to
UNC Charlotte having
completed an associates
degree in Fire
Protection/Fire Science
or similar degree. The
students then complete
61 hours (if admitted
with no deficiencies) to
fulfill the requirement
for the bachelors of
science degree. The 61
hours includes 49 hours
of major courses and 12
hours of general
education and/or major
electives. Students who
have already completed a
degree in another
discipline may enter the
program, however, they
must complete the
following courses before
taking any upper
division fire courses. ETFS
1120, ETFS 2124, ETFS
2132, ETFS 1232, ETFS

Distance Education Information
The distance education program in Fire Safety Engineering Technology allows those who are geographically unable to attend on campus classes to complete their bachelors degree. The program has a unique delivery method that uses both asynchronous and synchronous formats to create a virtual classroom. The asynchronous portion of each class is posted on the www for students to access. The synchronous portion takes place one time per week for each course and is conducted over the internet.
